A lot of you looking at taking a workshop might not know where you fall as far as knowledge and experience while trying to figure out which workshop level you are ready for. Here are a couple simple questions that will start to point you in the right direction real fast.
At any point when I mention the words aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation, perspective, depth of field (for starters), do you fully understand all of them? If you have to google any of these terms, either what they are or how they can effect photographic composition, you can stop wondering where you fit. The beginner class is for you. The beginning class does start simple, but climbs quickly into topics and skill sets that are not so… what you’d call “beginner.” Unless you are completely comfortable shooting in manual, understanding exposure’s ins and outs, regularly shoot a wide variety of composition by simply making adjustments to your camera, this is the course for you.
People looking at the advanced workshop. You should have quite a few miles on your photographic shoes before looking into this class. This course is for people who have the science of ambient light exposure down well, and have experience shooting in a wide gamut of situations for a while now. This course starts right where the beginner course leaves off, however, it is highly recommended that students who have just completed the beginners course take at least a few months to hone all of the skills that were touched on in class and get extremely comfortable with them. Give life time to toss you a few curveballs so that you get plenty of troubleshooting experience, and in that processes your skills will jump exponentially. The advanced course concentrates all of its attention on creative, off-camera lighting, so this will really cater mainly to portrait and product photographers. We will not be covering any material that is presenting in the beginner course, so ensure that you get the most out of this class by knowing all of the basics first.
